What we believe

This is a summary of what we believe about God, about the world, and how we live in it as Christians.

Beliefs.

We are an Evangelical Church, which means that we:
  1. Believe the Bible is God’s word – trustworthy and true.
  2. We centre our lives around Jesus and what He did for us on the cross.
  3. Believe that faith is personal – each person must respond to Jesus themselves.
  4. Are committed to living out our faith in every area of life: through loving others, prayer and sharing the good news.
One God in Three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Each unique but fully equal – working together in perfect unity. God created everything by His powerful will and continues to oversee and guide all of creation.

The Father

The first person of the Trinity, not by rank, but by relational order – the source from whom the Son is begotten and the source from whom the Spirit proceeds. Father of all, infinite yet personal, completely holy, wise, powerful and loving.

Jesus Christ

The eternal Son of God who became human, lived a perfect life and died on our behalf, taking on all our guilt and sin. He physically rose from the dead and is alive today, reigning in heaven as Lord over all. One day, he will return to judge the world – bringing justice, and welcoming all who trust in him into eternal joy and relationship with God.

The Holy Spirit

The third person of the Trinity, coming from both the Father and the Son. He works within us, enabling people to believe in Jesus and to turn away from sin. For believers, the Spirit is an active, ongoing presence, guiding and transforming their lives.

About the world

Men and women

Created perfect and equal in the image of God with inherent dignity, worth and distinction but who, through disobedience, have become the slaves of sin, and are therefore liable to God’s just punishment.

The forgiveness of sin

Comes about as a free and undeserved gift through the death of the Lord Jesus, in the place of sinners, and is received only through faith in Him.

The Bible

Which is God’s Word, true and meaningful to all generations and in all circumstances, and tells us what we need to know, about what we should believe and how we should live.

The Church

This is the world-wide community of people who truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Expressed locally through congregations who meet together in worship.

The ordinances we celebrate

Believers’ baptism

We believe that all those who come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ should follow His example and instruction to be baptised.

Communion

We regularly remember the Lord Jesus in his death and resurrection. This is to honour the Lord’s wish that those who believe, and follow his commands should remember him in this way.
