Who we are

We are a welcoming, independent church, passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus in Peebles and the surrounding area.

About Us

Peebles Evangelical Church is a thriving community who believe in and follow Jesus Christ. We gather every week for fellowship and to worship our Lord Jesus.

We are a welcoming, independent church, passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus in
Peebles and the surrounding area.

Our Vision & Mission

As a church our Vision is to see the people in Peebles and beyond transformed by the Good News
about Jesus Christ
.

To realise our vision, our activities are focussed on our Mission of sharing the good news, discipling
one another and serving our community
.

Our History

The first gathering of Peebles Evangelical Church was in March 1968 and was borne out of
evangelistic work undertaken by a small group mainly from the west of Scotland.

The church congregation grew and in 1974 began constructing the current church building on Tweed Brae. Both the building and congregation have grown and changed over time, but the passion for sharing the good news of Jesus has always, and will always, remain central.

Our Organisation

We are an independent evangelical church which has been a registered charity since 2004. The church organisational structure reflects both a Christian church and a charity.

Church leadership follows the pattern seen in the New Testament in that it is plural in nature. We  have a group of Elders supported by a team of Deacons. We employ both full and part-time staff to enable the discipling and pastoral work of the church. A board of trustees oversees the legal  responsibilities of the church.

The church is a community of people following Jesus together, not simply a place we attend. Anyone  who trusts in Jesus and has made our church their spiritual home is part of the church family, which  includes people from many different church and unchurched backgrounds. Those who wish to make  that commitment formal are encouraged to become church members.

Leadership

Our church is led by Elders, Deacons and Trustees.

Elders are responsible for the spiritual life of the church, while Deacons are responsible for the practical life of the church, and Trustees are responsible for the legal matters in our church.
